The outdoor space of your home is just as important as your indoor space, so you should treat it with the same care. Of course, the most important part of both outdoor and indoor spaces is the furniture. When in comes to choosing the right furniture setting, the major factors you need to consider are functionality, comfort, and aesthetics. But, when it comes to outdoor furniture you also need to have a few additional features in mind such as durability, resistance to the elements, mobility, easy storage, and the activities that are going to take place in your outdoor environment.
There are four basic categories of outdoor furniture: chairs and armchairs, chaises lounges, sofas, loveseats, outdoor coffee tables, dining tables, and side tables.
Very often, the chairs that are a part of a dining set are straight-back and very similar to the chairs used in dining rooms. Arm chairs, on the other hand, usually have deeper seats and are much more comfortable. A very common accessory for outdoor chairs are cushions.
Chaises lounges are a classic piece of outdoor furniture. They have been part of traditional outdoor for years and they are just as popular today. They are perfect for relaxing in your yard, reading a book, or just soak up some sun by the swimming pool.
Sofas are simply a lovely piece of furniture wherever you place them. Choose the number of seats depending on whether you want to cuddle with your partner or accommodate more of your friends and consider features such as swing mechanisms, armrests, seat depth and so on.
Tables come in all shapes and sizes, but for me personally, outdoor coffee tables are the most important piece of outdoor furniture. This is probably because my favourite daily ritual is to have my morning coffee outside, enjoy the cold breeze, soak up vitamin D, unwind, and just calm my mind.
When choosing outdoor furniture, you must not over look the materials used. Different materials have different benefits. Aluminum is a rust-resistant lightweight material and is also durable and tough. Steel is heavier than aluminum but also stronger and more durable. Iron is the strongest and heaviest of them all, however, it is not as rust-resistant as the previous ones and may need some touch-ups from time to time. Wicker is probably the most practical and light-weight solution, both for outdoor and indoor use. Wood is a natural alternative to other materials, but it typically requires too much maintenance if you want to protect it from the elements.
